You try to work and enjoy times with friends and family but you keep seeing what happened replay in your head overandover again. You ask, “Why can’t I just control my mind?” but you cannot seem to shake the feeling that this terrible thing is happening againandagain.

You relive the event over and over again in your mind

You wonder why you can’t just move on. You feel scared and have anxiety that something terrible will happen again. It seems you are easily startled no matter what you do you can’t relax. You just want to feel safe, but faces, places, sounds, and even smells cause you to remember the terrible thing that happened.

You survived but feel like a victim

This terrible thing you experienced has a name, it is called trauma.

If you have experienced a trauma, you feel guilty and angry. You want to know why it happened, so you blame yourself. You often feel stressed, irritable, ashamed, and frustrated.

What happened was not your fault

A trauma can happen to anyone. A trauma is any terrible, scary, and overwhelming event that causes you to feel like your body and your life, or the life of someone you love, is in very serious danger. Trauma causes your body and your mind to be in a state of stress and fear, making it very hard to calm down, relax, and think about more positive things.

You do not have to live in fear

You can learn to regain control. It is possible to overcome this and leave this terrible thing that happened to you in the past. Looking back is necessary to move forward but I am here to help you. I have over 10 years experience as a mental health counselor and special trauma training to help people, just like you, overcome traumatic experiences.
